Liberate Mecca!

Liberate Mecca!

In the year 1924 Wahhabi warriors invaded and occupied the holy city of Mecca. The Muslims who resisted the occupation were unsparingly butchered. Beheadings, car bombs, torture, mosque – and grave bombings are in other words not wholly new inventions. Valuable manuscripts were burned, cultural monuments were extinguished. The Wahhabi invasion of Mecca was a religious and cultural catastrophe, a nakba of immense dimensions.

The proclamation of the Zionist state in 1948 was a catastrophe, a nakba, indeed, but the Wahhabi conquestof Mecca, the killing of the Islamic Scholars and the Sufis and the expulsion of its original inhabitants, was an even greater nakba, from a religious point of view, since it effected all the Muslims of the world.

It was a black day in the history of Islam. We still suffer the after effects of the Wahhabi invasion in 1924 in the form of the aggressive Wahhabi imperialism and its sectarian violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia and other countries. Wherever Wahhabism comes, terror follows.

This black day must never be forgotten. Lack of knowledge of history is one of the Muslims´greatest weaknesses. It makes it possible for Wahhabism to become “normalized” and appear as something that has always existed. Most young Muslims cannot even imagine Mecca as it was before the occupation: a cosmopolitan and tolerant city of learning. In every corner there was a Sufi monastery. All denominations were represented.

We have a day of the year when we remember the Zionist occupation of Jerusalem – the Quds day. We also need a special day to remember the Wahhabi occupation of Mecca, a day when Muslims come together and manifest their resistance to the occupation, arrange lectures about the history of Mecca, exhibitions with photographs of what it looked like before the occupation, seminars and lectures about Wahhabism and about the importance of Mecca.

In my opinion it is a duty for every Muslim to involve himself in the liberation of Mecca and to teach himself and teach others about the history of Mecca and its place in Islam. It is a shame that we have a Quds day but no Mecca day. Is Mecca not more important than Quds?

Wahhabi control of Mecca and Medina suited the English colonial power perfectly. Now they had a fanatic sect that could never come to terms with others, that would not even recognize other Muslims as Muslims, to control the holy cities, the centre of islam. This sect could be used to turn Muslims against each other, prevent their development and weaken the resistance to Imperialism.

But the Wahhabi plan of conquest does not end with the occupation of Mecca and Medina. They lay claim to supremacy over all Islamic out countries, yes over the religion as such. For them Wahhabism is Islam. Any Islam outside Wahhabism does not exist. The Wahhabis dream of a Great-SaudiArabia and to achieve this goal they use partly terrorism and partly religious propaganda.

The Saudis strive to replace the ottoman caliphate that disappeared after the First World War. The Ottomans built their empire on Sunni Islam, the Saudis want to build it on Wahhabism. They already occupy large parts of the Islamic world religiously, through mosques, schools and mission organizations, and this is only the first step to a total political occupation.

So we have two states that serve the imperialism in the Middle East. The first, Saudi Arabia, works from within Islam, through subversion, division and secterianism. The other, Israel, from outside Islam by functioning as a military bastion of Imperialism. Therefore not only a Quds day is necessary, a day to remember the occupation of Jerusalem, but also a Mecca day to remember the occupation of Mecca.

The present sectarian terror regime should, after the liberation, be replaced by an international council with representatives drawn from all Islamic countries and communities.
